January is Glaucoma AwarenessPosted on: January 11, 2014 | General
Happy 2014! Health check – January is Glaucoma Awareness month. This eye disease is also known as the “silent thief” of vision. In its most common form, it has little to no symptoms and is characterized by a decrease in optic nerve health related to eye pressures that are too high for one’s eye. Only with very high pressures, you might have eye pain, red eyes, see halos, or blurry vision. Once damaged, the optic nerve tissue does not regenerate so loss of vision becomes permanent. There are effective treatments under an ophthalmologist’s care so let your friends and family know to get their eyes checked!
