Cataracts, glaucoma, or an unstable refractive error are also considerations that must be taken into account.

The SMILE procedure is similar to LASIK, though many deem it advantageous for multiple reasons. One, it’s less invasive, requiring a smaller incision. Two, there’s no need to make a corneal flap; instead, we remove a tiny laser-created corneal layer that reshapes the cornea to allow better vision.
As with LASIK, there’s little to no discomfort. And it’s quick, lasting only about ten minutes. Afterward, patients enjoy a fast recovery as with LASIK and with less discomfort and dryness.
